A message from Year 3
Welcome to Year 3! We are so excited for this term with lots of fun learning to commence! All of our core subjects will be taught with engaging, practical learning opportunities, for children to gain a love from learning. We are very busy learners in Year 3, but I am looking forward to the continued support from home with children’s homework and reading continuing after school.
During week two, we jumped straight into our Topic week… The Stone Age! All our learning was based upon the Stone Age: exploring the life of a caveman/cavewoman, producing writing based on our story ‘The Stone Age Boy’, exploring the job roles of a person living in the Stone Age and being engrossed in our Art/Design and Tech afternoons where we designed cave pictures, making mud paint, created and Stone Age jewellery. Keep an eye out for pictures this week, showcasing all of our hard work. As part of Design and Technology, we had an outside agency come in to work with the children on their planning, designing and preparation to create wooden photo frames. Children were engrossed within their learning and have created a brilliant frame!
PE will take place on a Friday where children will be learning lots of new sporting techniques within their physical education. PE kits MUST be worn: white shirts, black shorts and black PE pumps. All children will be encouraged to be involved with PE. In addition, we will be working on a daily mile within the school day where children will have the opportunity to run a mile. This has proved beneficial for children physically and mentally, as it provides a ‘brain break’ within the long school day.
Swimming in Year 3 will be every Thursday afternoon at our local swimming baths. Swimming is part of the children’s programme of study in Year 3, so all children will be involved with swimming lessons, which I’m sure they will be eagerly anticipating now that they’ve finally reached KS2! All children will need a swimming bag with a towel and a swim hat. Girls are required to wear a swimming costume and boys to wear swimming shorts.
Keep a check on our page and the photo gallery for updates of our learning journey in Year 3 and all the fun we will be engrossed with whilst learning. I am available afterschool if you wish to discuss your child’s learning journey at St Brigid’s.

A message from Year 4
Welcome to year 4, here you will find up to date pictures of what we are getting up to across the year. It’s going to be an exciting year with lots of learning in store. Have a look at our topic map below to find out what we will be covering this half term. We began the year focusing on our topic; the Romans. The children had lots of fun learning about who they were and even made their own mosaic tiles and Roman Shields! We look forward to the year ahead.
