Curriculum

Statement of curriculum intent

At St. Brigid’s Catholic Primary School:

  • Our curriculum promotes respect for the views of each individual child, as well as for people of all cultures.
  • As a Catholic school we are deeply committed to developing children’s faith. We value the spiritual, moral, social and emotional development of every child.
  • We are deeply committed to preparing children for life in modern Britain and understanding their place in a global community.
  • We ensure that fundamental British values are introduced, discussed, explored and lived out through the school’s curriculum provision.
  • Our curriculum is designed to develop in our children a balance of the essential knowledge and skills, including basic skills in English and mathematics; the curriculum is also designed to be broad and rich to reflect the diversity of both the school, the local community and wider world
  • Our curriculum is designed around 6 Ps, to deliver the essential knowledge skills and understanding that pupils will be need to move on to the next stage of their education:

Planet:

Knowing about the world and the universe

Preservation

Knowing how to look after what we’ve got

Past

Knowing how we got to where we are;

Places

Knowing where live and the wider world

People

Knowing how people live

Patterns and Processes

Knowing that patterns and processes can take many different forms.

  • We have high expectations of our pupils, to achieve the standards set out in the Early Years curriculum by the end of Reception and in the National Curriculum for Years 1 to 6 in reading, writing, mathematics and science. In other subjects, we have clearly defined expectations of pupils’ learning for Years 1 to 6 to enable pupils to learn, recall and utilise the knowledge, concepts and skills that will make them successful learners and prepare them for adult life.
